Dining Room Series: Table Shape Matters

The dining room series continues with the everlasting table shape debate: round vs rectangle! The truth is shape does matter. A few things to think about when deciding what shape to choose, first the size of your room. You don't want your table to get lost in a large space. Even though a round table is great for intimate conversations, it can get difficult to hear someone across a large round table that seats 12-14. You could opt for an oval table which allows for a more comfortable conversation. If your space does not have a designated dining room, round tables are a great option. The second thing to consider is the shape of your room. If you have a long narrow space, a round table may not give you the clearance you need to comfortably get between chairs and the wall. Reference my previous blog post in this series to get the minimum furniture distances that are recommended. If you do have rectangular space with enough room for a round table, then creating a focal point on the opposite end of the room will give you the balance to create a beautiful and unique dining room.

Let's not leave out the rectangular table, which happens to be the most popular table shape for dining rooms. Rectangle tables are practical and fit most dining room spaces. They come in so many different styles as well. But if you are wanting something a bit different, an oval table is a great option to change things up and add a level of elegance to your space.

Below I have included a helpful buying size guide. Hope you enjoyed this post and found it to be insightful. Stay tuned for my next post in the series about area rugs in dining rooms.
