Dining Room Series: Mini Blog Insight

Source: Ballard Designs
To continue with the dining room series, I wanted to mention a couple quick things to keep in mind when designing your dining room. Don't forget your tableware! So many times we design the entire dining room and then pull out the china to find it totally doesn't match. I want to remind you that you can always use your china as a jumping-off point for decorating your dining room. For example, if your plates have color or pattern, use those elements to start creating your scheme. If you have already run into this problem of your tableware not matching too well, you can always add in things. For example, choose a complimentary napkin, placemat, or silverware that may help tie things in better.

Another thing to keep in mind when designing your space is to incorporate adjacent rooms that may be within sight lines of each other. We live in a time where most spaces are open to other spaces, so you want to make sure that all the spaces coordinate without necessarily matching. You can achieve this by using the same color in all the spaces, the same design style, or some common decor element like plants or curtains. Finishing touches for a dining room include tableware, centerpiece decor, drapery, wall art, and sideboard decor. These are all areas that can tie into adjacent room decor but also be the moments that really reflect your personality.
