Popular Design Trends for 2023

Design trends for 2023 have taken quite the departure from what we saw last year. Out with the light and bright and in with bold deep color. We have seen an infusion of more curved '60s & '70s-inspired furniture, as well as more vintage pieces mixed with modern decor. Black is back in for added richness. The use of pattern fabrics has also made a comeback. There is also this trend of imperfection lately as seen with Zellige tiles for their tactile qualities. The above example demonstrates the use of bold texture upholstery on a curvy sofa. You can also notice a mix of modern and vintage wall art.

In this example, we see the '70s influence with the use of bold patterns in the swivel barrel chairs with a curved sofa with a beautiful statement chandelier. The coffee table also has that '70s vibe. Notice that with all the bold furniture and lighting, the walls and floors are very simple and light. This is a great example of balance. There is also a very organic feel to this room with the addition of large greenery, the fireplace's veiny marble choice, and the color of the sofa.

If you thought Zellige tile was just for kitchens and bathrooms, think again! This is a great example of imperfect tile used floor to ceiling on this fireplace feature wall. The different tones of creams and whites add interest and another layer to the texture of the imperfections of the tile. I actually prefer the Zellige tile in this setting rather than as a kitchen backsplash simply for practical cleanability purposes. The uneven tiles and grout lines make this option slightly difficult to keep to clean, so keep that in mind when choosing Zellige tile for a kitchen or bathroom.

Last but not least, my favorite 2023 trend! Black is back! The use of these plush tufted black chairs really ground this space and adds a touch of luxury to what seems to be a simple room design. You can see touches of black throughout this space with the black windows, a black cabinet, and some black in the art. These black elements sprinkled around the room allow the eye to move seamlessly through the space and give the room volume. Hope these photos inspire you to try one of 2023's design trends with confidence! Happy designing!
