Kitchen Trends 2023

One thing we have all learned through the COVID pandemic is that our kitchen is the heart of the home where almost everything happens. It's our spot to work, eat, chat about the day, and even play. Even as we have phased out of the pandemic and ventured out more, this kitchen trend will continue. As we spent more time at home, we realized all the things that we need and want in our spaces. The kitchen was definitely the first place I started adding functionality and style. Keeping in mind all the things we do in our kitchens using a calm neutral palette, using similar color tones, adding interest with texture, bringing in unique decor elements, creating focal points, and using creative solutions.
Let us begin with wood cabinets making a comeback and replacing the all-white kitchen cabinets of yesterday. Natural wood cabinets are used in all kitchen design aesthetics from modern to traditional. With so many wood options, you can easily find the right timeless wood that suits your personal style. A kitchen is not where you see many pops of color when it comes to the cabinets, countertops, backsplash, or flooring finishes. If you do like the occasional color in the kitchen, consider kitchen towels, pots, and pans with color or displaying colorful cookbooks.

Marble has made a huge return from the days of granite and quartz. Marble is still not considered the best option for a kitchen when it comes to durability however, people have begun to appreciate the wear and tear as it adds character and tells the stories of all your kitchen memories. The main reason marble has made a comeback is for its dramatic veining and contrast, but for me, marble is a timeless option that adds that touch of elegance and sophistication every space needs.

A big trend in the kitchen right now is unexpected decor on open shelving. We saw open shelving being used over the past few years mainly being decorated with plates and bowls. In 2023 we are seeing framed artwork, decor boxes, personal picture frames, lamps, mirrors, and pottery. Get creative and style your kitchen shelves with unique travel finds mixed with some stacked plates and your favorite photo.

The best place to create a focal point in the kitchen is the stove and hood vent area. A statement hood vent is where you can get a lot of bang for your buck in the kitchen. It can be the biggest area of real estate in the kitchen and when done right, make a real huge impact. Some ideas for really playing this area of the kitchen up are to add wall sconces, a different finish on your hood, use a large scale hood, use open shelving on either side of your hood or add windows. Creating a focal point with a statement hood can really set the tone of your entire kitchen.
Last but not least, coming up with creative solutions for kitchen space planning is another trend for 2023. Specifically, there have been unique materials used as partitions or to hide the side of your refrigerator such as wood slats and metal paned window walls. Bringing in a commercial element like floor-to-ceiling glass or an old warehouse window, is a great way to add an unexpected texture.
